River Kwai Memoirs 2011
It’s approaching year end and the club have planned yet another exhilarating trip and this time to the province of Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Our convoy will travel from Penang to Hadyai, Prachuap Khirikhan, Kanchanaburi, Prachuap Khirikhan, Nakhon Sithammarat and finally return to Penang covering an estimated distance of 2,400km.
Kanchanaburi is Thailand 3rd largest province and is located 130km west of Bangkok and borders with Myanmar at the north-west. The province itself captivates beautiful nature and friendly people with their native charm. Major attractions includes several waterfalls, mountains, caves (that were once inhabited by neolithic man), national parks, and last, but not least, the River Kwai.
The Bridge Over River Kwai - Internationally famous, thanks the several motion pictures and books, the black iron bridge was brought from Java by the Japanese supervision by Allied prisoner-of-war labour as part of the Death Railway linking Thailand with Burma. Still in use today, the bridge was the target of frequent Allied bombing raids during World War II and was rebuild after war ended. The curved spans of the bridge are the original sections. A daily train is still following the historical route from Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok Railway Station. |

Compulsory for members to rent mobile radio from club at RM80 for this event. (for those who does not own a radio)
